Following is a list of ingredients in a common commercial "soap".
Sodium cocoyl isethionate, stearic acid, coconut acid, sodium tallowate, water, sodium isethionate, sodium stearate,
cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium cocoate or palm kernelate,
fragrance,
sodium chloride, tetrasodium EDTA, trisodium etidronate, BHT, titanium dioxide and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate.
Several of these ingredients are detergents. A detergent is a synthetic imitation of soap made from chemicals.
Unlike real soap, detergents do not combine with natural mineral salts in water and do not form scum.
Unlike real soap, detergents work in cold water and with salt water.
They contain surfactants and additives contributing to foam on rivers and problems with sewage treatment facilities because they are not bio-degradable.
